building in the east bay. a three-alarm fire destroyed c & h enterprises on boggs terrace in fremont. smoke could be seen for miles. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is at the machine shop that burned in fremont where it's still too dangerous to get into the building. >> reporter: we are waiting for fire investigators to show up this morning. and they are planning on doing an investigation into the cause of this fire. so far they have not been able to get into the building here behind me. check out this video from yesterday that fire sent up a giant plume of black smoke. you could see it all over fremont. fire officials said they were doing grinding work with metal shavings here at c & h enterprises when the fire broke out. employees rushed to get out after the fire started at 1:45 p.m. >> jake came running into the office. i could see the smoke billowing over the roof to the front. and he said, call 911. we have a fire. and it just started getting worse after that. >> did everyone get out? >> everyone got out safely. >>> reporter: they did issue a "shelter in place" order in the neighborhood be
fremont exits, then everything actually looks good all the way up towards oakland and the macarthur maze. to the south bay we go now and all of our live drive time sensors pretty much showing speeds moving at the limit including up the guadalupe parkway and throughout downtown. looks like they are out there doing lane changes across the golden gate bridge so heads up if you are commuting northbound or southbound 101. they should be opening more southbound lanes in the commute direction here any minute. westbound 580 free and clear not a single brake light right now on that westbound 580 ride from the altamont pass to the dublin interchange. should be about a 14 or 15- minute commute in those westbound lanes of 580 and bart off to a great start. all mass transit on time. that's traffic, back to you guys. >> thank you. >>> a woman was shot and killed in east oakland by a stray bullet. witnesses say they heard about 5 shots on international boulevard shortly before 7:00 last night. investigators say the victim was not the intended target of the shooter. but no arrests have been made. >>> mo

deck between the cantilever section and fremont. that should be wrapped at least by 5:00. the rest of your bay area bridges problem-free including the golden gate bridge just north of there though south 101 near sir francis drake two lanes shut down for construction. that will be there at least until 6:00. but you can see the golden gate bridge smooth sailing into san francisco. the dumbarton bridge both directions only one lane open looks like you might see some slight delays. that should be wrapped up by 5:00 this morning as well. use the san mateo bridge as an alternate. also 880 not showing any delays north- or southbound. we have some roadwork reported in both directions right around embarcadero but not causing too many delays. that's traffic. back to you. >> thank you. >>> recent rains are to blame for a sinkhole in the making at least that's what they think they have on their hands. crews have closed marsh creek road between deer valley and pine lane in clayton. a pipe under the road failed and a potential sinkhole is starting to form. maintenance crews are on the scene this
scattered showers along the 680 near fremont and also into union city. this is what we are going see throughout the morning, pop-up showers throughout the bay area. the main cold front still lagging behind the system but a dry cold front will move through, may be falling apart. but behind that we have a lot of cold air. so here we go again. you will see the front move through and temperatures will be dropping around the bay area. outside cloudy, scattered showers right now. temperatures not too bad. it is 54 degrees in san jose. 56 in san francisco. and 52 degrees in concord. this afternoon, highs expected to be in the 50s, maybe some low 60s toward san jose and also in the mountain view area. so it looks like we'll finally catch a break toward the afternoon. but then it looks like a chance of showers to make a return as we head in toward the latter part of this week. in fact, things could get wet in the latter part of this week. that's the latest. back to you. >> all right, off-and-on rain isn't the only thing we have to be worried about this morning. it's windy especially on the ba
, and close to mid-50s low to mid-50s in oakland and fremont. so here's your forecast over the next several days. once again, rain by this afternoon continues to be unsettled into tomorrow. sunday we should clear out. and then during the day on monday new year's eve, it looks like we could get hit with a new chance of rain. this is a new thing we have added to our seven-day forecast just this morning. it looks like right now new year's eve plans at night won't be impacted by the rain. it looks clear new year's day. and then unsettled again on wednesday. so the roads right now are quiet on this friday morning. so far, we have had not bad traffic all week long because a lot of folks have this week off during christmas. here's a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. no metering lights, no delay. we sent our photographer this morning down to palo alto. so this is a live look at 101 near university. headlights are moving southbound overall both directions super light this morning. not a lot of roadwork out there, either. i just checked in with caltrans. it's a quiet start to the morning drive.
